Sensitive demanding tradition

Winegrowing with great history. Duke Leopold VI of the House of Babenberg also donated some vineyards in Pfaffstätten to Lilienfeld Abbey when it was founded in 1202. With the takeover of the winery, we have assumed responsibility for one of the oldest wineries in Austria.
A great honour, a great responsibility.

Focus on autochthonous varieties

Domaene Lilienfeld is dedicated to the autochthonous grape varieties Rotgipfler and Zierfandler, which are native to the Thermenregion. But old varieties like Blaue Portugieser and Neuburger are also part of the assortment, as well as Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and St. Laurent. This diversity calls for a great deal of commitment to viticulture and the right instincts in wine making to develop very good quality wines. You will certainly find them here in this wine assortment.

Rotgipfler und Zierfandler

Rotgipfler and Zierfandler are both an autochthonous white wine variety from Austria, which are almost exclusively found in the area around Gumpoldskirchen today. The Rotgipfler was mentioned for the first time around 1837 and is a natural hybrid of Traminer and Roter Veltliner. The Rotgipfler gets its name from the reddish tips of its shoots. The Zierfandler, also known as Spätrot, is a hybrid of Traminer-like grapes and Roter Veltliner. Like the Rotgipfler, the Zierfandler is harvested late.

Wines made from Rotgipfler and Zierfandler have very good storage potential. Compared to the Rotgipfler, the Zierfandler has a more delicate taste and is more elegant in good years. The Rotgipfler is a full-bodied wine, the ideal drinking temperature is between 7 and 10°C.

Sustainability in winegrowing

Improved sustainability is continually being worked on in the vineyards, benefiting the environment and people equally. This includes the limited use of chemicals and creating zones for more biodiversity.
